Holter Monitor

At The Heartbeat Clinic, we aim to deliver reliable and high-quality Holter monitoring services to help you address the challenges of abnormal heart rhythms. Our efficient cardiac monitoring equipment and qualified doctors ensure you receive precise diagnoses and optimal treatment.

Understanding Holter Monitor

The Holter monitor is an ambulatory device that records your heart’s electrical activity continuously for 24 to 48 hours. Unlike routine electrocardiogram (ECG) tests—which involve attaching electrodes to your chest and limbs to record your heart’s activity for a few minutes—the Holter monitor provides extended monitoring. This continuous observation makes it more sensitive and capable of detecting irregularities that may not appear during a standard ECG.

Why is Holter Monitoring Done?

Holter Monitoring is performed to:

What to expect during Holter monitoring?

Preparation

Our medical team will explain the procedure and securely attach the Holter monitor to your chest using adhesive electrodes. You can continue your daily activities but will be advised to keep the device dry, avoiding bathing, swimming, or activities that might wet the monitor. Wear loose, comfortable clothing to accommodate the device.

Wearing the Monitor

You will wear the Holter monitor for 24 to 48 hours, as recommended by your doctor. The device will continuously record your heart’s electrical activity throughout this period.

Recording Symptoms

You may be asked to keep a diary of any symptoms you experience—such as palpitations, dizziness, or chest pain—and note the time they occur. This information helps correlate symptoms with the data captured by the monitor.

After Monitoring

At the end of the monitoring period, you will return the device to the clinic. Our specialists will analyze the recorded data and discuss the results with you.

Risks of Holter Monitoring

Holter monitoring is safe and non-invasive with minimal risks. Some patients may experience minor discomfort or skin irritation from the adhesive electrodes; however, these symptoms are temporary and usually resolve quickly after the electrodes are removed.

Results

The results from Holter monitoring provide your healthcare provider with detailed information about your heart’s electrical activity over an extended period. They can help identify:

Arrhythmias

Identifying irregular heart rhythms such as atrial fibrillation, tachycardia, or other arrhythmias that may require treatment.

Heart Rate Variability

Assessing changes in heart rate that may indicate underlying issues with your heart’s electrical system.

Response to Activities

Understanding how your heart responds to various activities or stressors throughout the day.
